Keralase is an FDA-cleared, non-surgical, non-invasive hair restoration treatment that combines laser technology with a specialized growth factor serum to stimulate hair growth and improve scalp health. It involves using the Cynosure/Lutronic LaseMD Ultra laser to create microchannels in the scalp, followed by the application of KeraFactor serum, a topical solution containing proprietary growth factors and peptides, as well as PDRN, packaged in nanofluorosomes.

Nanofluorosomes help the serum penetrate the scalp much more effectively and deeply. The serum is massaged into the scalp immediately after the preparatory laser treatment of the scalp. This is then followed by Red Light therapy for further activation of the nanofluorosomes.

FDA-clearance refers to the Lase-MD/Kerafactor serum/red light combination has met the FDA’s standards for safety and effectiveness for its intended use in hair restoration/strengthening.

At SM Drip we also offer the more conventional method of hair restoration with PRP injections, which involves drawing one’s own blood and spinning it down to make PRP (touted by some as “liquid gold”), which we then inject in the scalp to stimulate hair follicles. We take PRP hair restoration 2 steps further with first priming the scalp with our LaseMD ultra laser at very low energy levels, and following injection we then place patients under red light therapy to further stimulate follicle blood flow and restoration.

How it Works:

The laser and serum or PRP work together to stimulate hair follicles, improve blood supply to the scalp (with the assistance of red light therapy), and encourage hair to enter the active growth phase.

FAQs

  • We recommend 6 sessions for best results. It takes hair follicles 3-6 months to show revival/growth stimulation.

  • Very minimally. The energy levels used for the keralase hair restoration procedure is quite low, which allows us to do the procedure without the need to even numb the scalp. PRP injection is using a 3-prong needle method which disburses the pain signal, allowing for more comfort. Most people feel a discomfort level of 1-3/10.

  • We recommend that you avoid the sun for the first 24 hours after hair restoration treatments. Additionally, we recommend that you not wash your hair for 24h hours after the kerafactor serum application during the procedure, so as to allow full penetration and complete absorption of the serum in the skin.

  • Keralase (and PRP) hair restoration allows for significant improvement in hair thickening/restoration in areas with dormant follicles. Type of thinning is assessed in consultation prior to first treatment, to ensure candidacy and likely success. 6 sessions are recommended at minimum. Treatment should have a prolonged lasting effect, with proper after care.

  • There are minimal side effects to the treatment. Rarely, a topical reaction may occur to the serum. Sunburn sensation is expected on the scalp for the first 24 hours after treatment.
